Lesson Descriptions

Lesson 1: "Mouse Skills"
- Students will practice moving, clicking, and dragging the mouse through a variety of interactive games.
- Students will learn about the home row and practice using proper hand position to type.

- Students will practice identifying keys on the keyboard while reviewing/using proper hand position to type.

- Students will review computer lab expectations and create a digital poster to communicate an important rule/expectation.

- Students will use Google Sheets to make their name using pixel art. Students will practice using mouse skills and locating keys on the keyboard to make their picture.

- Students will use typing/mouse skills to create an "All About Me" poster.

- Students will use the secret message maker to type a message to a partner. Students will print their messages and solve them.

- Students will use a map-making application to create a map of a fictional town. Students will then use a word processing app to type sentences about the location of things on their map.

- Students will use a kid-friendly search engine to find a photo of their favorite animal. They will practice copying and pasting it into a word document and typing a fact about their animal using a complete sentence. Students will manipulate the font, size, and color and print their final product.

- Students will use an app to create a backpack, copy and paste it into a word document, and type descriptive sentences about their backpacks. Students will also practice manipulating the font, size, and color before printing their final product.

- Students will create a unique avatar, copy and paste it into a word document, and type clues about themselves following an "I am...I have...I can...I like..." format. Students will also practice manipulating the font, size, and color before printing their final product.

- After completing a draft in class, students will use an online program to publish a "How-To" book. After printing their books, students will add illustrations.

- Students will choose an educational science video on a topic of their choice. After watching the video, students will write down what they have learned.

- Students will use the Time for Kids website to read about a topic of their choice. They will then fill out a document sharing what they have learned.

- After surveying their peers in class, students will create a digital graph to represent their findings.
